Born on October 24, 1961, in Kyiv, Ukraine, Khan co-founded Alfa Group, one of Russia's largest privately-owned investment groups, alongside Mikhail Fridman and Alexei Kuzmichev. Khan's most notable success came through his involvement with TNK-BP, a major Russian oil company formed in 2003 as a joint venture between Alfa Group and British Petroleum (BP).
